What building in Lompoc actually involves

We build around what this area actually demands, starting with the housing stock itself: Beach bungalows and cottages on narrow lots. Licensed general contractor (CSLB #1063782) specializing in home remodeling, additions, kitchen and bathroom renovation, new construction, and ADUs in Lompoc and throughout Lompoc Valley.

Lompoc sits on a relatively flat valley floor close to the coast, which keeps temperatures mild but also means persistent marine layer, fog, and salt-laden air that accelerate corrosion on fasteners, flashing, and exposed metal of any kind, so material selection matters from the first nail. Much of the housing stock dates from the mid-twentieth century, when the area grew quickly around Vandenberg, and those homes often carry the typical issues of that era: aging electrical panels, galvanized supply lines, minimal wall insulation, and foundations that were poured before current seismic standards were established. The valley soil can include expansive clay in certain areas, which affects how footings behave through the wet season, and that is worth confirming with a soils report before you commit to a foundation design or a room addition. Lot access in the older residential neighborhoods is generally straightforward, but alley-loaded lots and narrow side yards are common enough that staging materials and maneuvering equipment sometimes takes more planning than the project itself would suggest. Most remodels in Santa Barbara County are permitted through the city if your address sits inside city limits, and through the county if you are in an unincorporated area, and those two paths do not run identically. What varies most from one jurisdiction to the next is the layer that sits on top of the building permit itself: whether exterior changes trigger architectural or design review, whether your parcel falls inside the coastal zone and needs coastal review, and how your local agency applies state ADU law to a conversion or a new unit. Coastal review is handled by the local agency in jurisdictions with a certified Local Coastal Program, and some residential scopes are exempt, so ask your building and planning department which of these apply to your specific parcel while the drawings are still cheap to change.

Common in Lompoc

  • 1940s to 1950s military-era tract bungalows near Vandenberg
  • 1920s to 1930s Spanish Colonial Revival cottages in the historic downtown grid
  • postwar ranch houses on wide flat lots in central Lompoc
  • 1960s to 1970s stucco tract homes with low-pitched roofs
  • mid-century duplexes built during the base expansion years
  • newer production homes on the east-side subdivisions along the Santa Rita corridor

Worth settling before you start

  • clay-heavy adobe soil that shifts seasonally and affects foundations and drainage
  • coastal fog belt humidity that drives wood rot in older window framing and eaves
  • shallow lot depths on the original downtown grid limiting rear additions
  • asbestos and original galvanized plumbing common in pre-1960 Lompoc stock

My wife and I are currently getting renovations with Tal, Noy and team for our first home. It has only been a week and half since the start of our renovations and they are doing amazing work. Tal and Noy are very easy to speak to, easy to reach for any questions we have and great people. Their workers are just the same. For our first home and first renovations we are extremely glad we choose their team. They go above and beyond to make sure our home is how we envision it to be and that we are happy. If you need remodeling, I would highly recommend you to hire their team. Jeff & Valerie

I needed to remodel my condo in Sherman oaks, so I reached out to many local contractors, and I found Idan, who is the most thorough & pleasant contractor to deal with. He made me feel very assured that the process would go smooth. He was very helpful by providing a 3D design of my kitchen that was a big dream, for a long time. He referred me to a very nice show room that was very helpful, with many amazing choices. The end result was phenomenal, I appreciated the awareness of time, and the attention to details. In the end, no corners were cut. I would Definetly recommend Idan to my friends & family for future business.

We bought our townhouse in April 2021. We did not like the layout of the kitchen because of the wall separating the kitchen to the rest of the house, and having the laundry in the kitchen was not normal to us. So we contacted 3 contractors to give us a quote. The quotes we got were about the same price, but we felt connected to Tal because he seemed like a good guy and he has a daughter the same age of ours (personal reasons). He estimated 4-6 weeks completion time. It took about 8 weeks to complete after a couple upgrade requests. The end result is phenomenal. We received compliments from our guests on how beautiful our kitchen now looks like. Here's our honest feedback. Pros: fair pricing, Tal would go out of his way to pick up materials from Home Depot for us, he's humorous, he follows up, and he tries to work with us to stick to our design. Cons: there were days without activities. Majority of the workers, except for handyman Marlon and his dad (painter), are subcontractors so you're at the mercy of their availability. There were a few minor flaws with the project, but we told Tal about it and he fixed it. Overall, we're happy customers and we recommend T&N Remodeling for kitchen remodeling.
